NFAFA Member Trust Attorneys
The attorneys listed on this page have shown support for your NFA rights by joining the NFA Freedom Alliance. The NFAFA asks you to consider using them for your firearms trust.
A firearms trust can be a valuable tool to assist you in acquiring NFA items, because currently there is no CLEO certification required for trusts. That could change in 2015 (see ATF 41P). However, there are numerous other benefits to utilizing a firearms trust to manage your guns.
You may have family members who you want to be able to use your NFA items. For instance your adult son or daughter may want to take your suppressed rifle to hunt pigs with, if they are part of your trust they may do so legally without you being present.

There are also many estate planning benefits to firearms trusts as well. Here is a list of some of the benefits of a firearms trust provided by NFAFA Trust Attorney Member Jim Alder:
To purchase NFA items with less hassle (will likely change with 41p)
To legally share the use of NFA items with lifetime beneficiaries and co-trustees of your trust
To serve as a comprehensive management system with detailed instructions for your NFA weapons (inform successor trustees how these weapons must be handled, so they don't get in trouble)
To avoid probate of your NFA weapons (41p says your Personal Representative can take possession of your NFA weapons and make transfer applications, but by definition, your P.R. is the person appointed by a probate court to administer your estate after you die, so it appears a judicial probate proceeding will be required)
Trust applications oftentimes seem to be processed quicker that most individual applications, especially with Form 1 applications on the ATF's eForms system.
We suggest that you contact one of these NFAFA member attorneys and see if a firearms trust is right for you!
